Getting to Know: Kim Loveland, Senior Specialist Lead, Medical Staff Services | South Region
What brought you to Munson Healthcare?
Ever since I was a child, I’ve had a love and desire to care for people. I was 10 when I started volunteering every day after school at Marklund, a medically complex non-profit organization that houses children and adults with severe and profound developmental disabilities and special healthcare needs. I knew healthcare was where I wanted to be, to make a difference in the lives of people.
What do you love about your work?
Having the opportunity to be a part of the behind the scenes of our providers that work every day for the same passion I’ve always had, but in a different way. Keeping patients safe and doing everything I can to show them we care for them.
What is one thing you want people to know about Medical Staff Services?
Our Medical Staff Offices are the gatekeepers of patient safety because we ensure providers have the proper training for procedures, verify the privileging and credentialing of providers, and maintain compliance with regulatory requirements.
What advice do you have for ambulatory offices/providers?
Please keep the Medical Staff Office informed! We’re responsible and accountable to keep our records updated. If you have a new provider, we need to know. If you have a provider leaving, we need to know. If you’re opening a new clinic or starting a new line of service, check with us first to ensure the correct privileges are in place for your providers performing the new service. Delays happen and compliance is at risk when things aren’t in place prior to making these changes.
What are you most passionate about outside of work?
Being outside. Spending time outdoors, whether it be camping and enjoying the company of family and friends or just watching my chickens live their best life. The outdoors gives me calmness and peace of mind just enjoying the incredible creation around us.
What might we be surprised to learn about you?
I am afraid of automatic carwashes! If my husband wants to go through the carwash while I’m in the car, I need to get out and wait outside. It’s best for everyone if I hand-wash the car and drive off with the shining gem of my own labor-intensive work.
