Information for Providers The Bleeding Disorder Center staff is available 24/7 for consultations by calling our office at 231-935-7227 or through Munson Medical Center’s switchboard by calling 231-935-5000. Hematologist Kristian M. Koller, DO, as well as our nurse practitioner and registered nurse, can be reached for consultation if you have a patient that you suspect may have a bleeding disorder. Hemodialysis: At Home or at a Dialysis Center In hemodialysis, blood is pumped out of your body to an artificial kidney machine. The machine filters your body’s wastes, extra salt, and water, and your cleansed blood is returned to your body by tubes that connect you to the machine. Peritoneal Dialysis at Home In peritoneal dialysis, the inside lining of your own belly acts as a natural filter. Wastes are taken out by means of a cleansing fluid called dialysate, which is washed in and out of your belly in cycles. A soft plastic tube (catheter) is placed in your belly by surgery. A sterile cleansing fluid is put into your belly through this catheter. After the filtering process is finished, the fluid leaves your body through the catheter. The dialysate stays in the belly for four to six hours before being drained along with the toxins and fluid from the blood that have
