Several Patient rooms have great views, including this one of Lake Michigan.

Paul Oliver Living and Rehabilitation Center recently was awarded the top five-star rating by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

The 39-bed facility with views of Lake Michigan ranks among the top 10 percent of long-term care homes in the state.

“We are really proud to receive this designation,” said Kristi Johnson, M.S.N., R.N., director of the facility. “It speaks to the high quality of care provided by our long-term care staff and the entire Paul Oliver team.”

CMS provides a website, Nursing Home Compare, that rates each nursing home in the country using one to five stars. Five stars represents above average quality, with the top 10 percent receiving a five-star rating, middle 70 percent receiving two, three, or four stars, and the bottom 20 percent receive one star. Criteria for the ratings are based on clinical data, health inspections, and Medicare and Medicaid data.

In addition to hospital-based services, such as dialysis and emergency care, Paul Oliver offers a wide spectrum of rehab services for skilled and long-term patients, including speech, respiratory, occupational, and physical therapy, with staff specially certified in wound care, lymphedema, hand therapy, and post-stroke rehabilitation.

“Offering high quality care starts with our staff,” Johnson said. “We are lucky to work with such a dedicated group, and we continually make investments in training and education for advanced certifications to ensure we are offering the latest approaches to quality care.”
