MMC Emergency Department (ED) staff now have access to two new “pediatric carts” to help create a more comfortable environment for young patients. These carts are stocked with calming tools to help children — especially those with sensory sensitivities, autism spectrum disorder, or behavioral health needs — feel more at ease during their visit. Tools include:

  • Noise-cancelling headphones
  • Sensory and fidget toys
  • Coloring packets/games/modeling clay
  • Weighted lap mats (instructions included for safe use)
  • Visual supports and other calming tools
  • Communication cards

“Our goal is to ensure that every child receives the most compassionate and appropriate care possible,” said Crystal Pulice, DO, ED Chair and Assistant Medical Director at MMC, who has been a leader in pediatric care improvement efforts.
