Who performs heart surgery?

Munson Medical Center’s heart team includes a group of highly-experienced cardiovascular surgeons who perform heart surgery to bypass blocked arteries or replace faulty heart valves.

Cardiothoracic Surgeons of Grand Traverse is repeatedly recognized in the state and nation as a top-rated heart bypass surgical group. Five cardiothoracic surgeons lead a team of physician assistants, nurse practitioners, perfusionists, and hospital staff who specialize in heart surgery patients.

Minimally Invasive Procedures

Munson Medical Center stays at the forefront of adopting new technology and surgical techniques.

New minimally invasive heart procedures have good outcomes and allow patients to recover more quickly with less pain and a shorter hospital stay. The therapy itself, for valve repair or replacement, is exactly the same as in regular open heart surgery.

  • Full spectrum of mitral and tricuspid repair and reconstruction
  • Pulmonic valve replacement
  • Septal myectomy for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
  • Surgical ablation of arrhythmias
