About Us

The Foster Family Community Health Center, formerly called the Munson Community Health Center, is the front door to services provided at Munson Medical Center and elsewhere in the Munson Healthcare system. People from around northern Michigan use Foster Family Community Health Center for pre-operative testing, pain management, rehabilitation therapies, urgent care, sleep disorders, and many other diagnostic services.

With plenty of on-site parking and a variety of expert, quality services, Foster Family Community Health Center provides easy access to frequently used outpatient services.

Urgent Care

Location: North Entrance | 231-935-8686

  • Open daily, 9 am - 8 pm

Urgent Care is the best place to go for illnesses, injuries, or conditions that need to be treated right away, but are not life threatening. We provide convenient, walk-in medical service for times when your physician’s office is not available. Our clinic is staffed with a team of highly qualified professionals, including board-certified physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants. Services include evaluation and treatment for:

  • Back or muscle strains
  • Bladder infections 
  • Bug bites or small animal bites 
  • Coughs, congestion, and sinus problems 
  • Cuts, sprains, and fractures 
  • Ear infections 
  • Mild fevers 
  • Minor burns 
  • Nausea and/or vomiting 
  • Pink eye or other minor eye problems 
  • Rashes 
  • Sore throat 
  • Sprains, muscle pulls, or minor injuries

Our team of dietitians, exercise physiologists, pharmacists, and rehabilitation nurses will help you return to the highest level of activity and independence possible. Our services include:

Outpatient lab services are available at Foster Family Community Health Center. Access lab services in Traverse City using the South Entrance. Stop by without an appointment when your doctor orders lab work at this location in Traverse City. 

For faster service, visit us in the afternoon from 12pm - 5pm, or you can schedule online.

Online self-scheduling allows you to book appointments at your convenience. This option also helps laboratory staff prepare in advance for your visit and reduce wait times.

Occupational Health & Medicine’s Travel Health Services

Munson Healthcare’s travel health services help prepare patients for travel abroad by customizing a plan to avoid illness and disease. Travel consultations are especially recommended for those traveling to Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Referrals are not needed and appointments with Occupational Health are recommended to be scheduled 4-6 weeks prior to your departure. Some insurances may reimburse patients for travel clinic expenses.

Services include:

  • Personalized consultations to identify potential health risks, and recommendations to help you stay healthy
  • Prescriptions and recommendations for over-the-counter medications for travelers to have on hand during their trip

Featuring six home-like bedrooms with private baths, all equipped for handicapped access. For our pediatric sleep program, we offer specially trained staff and child-friendly bedrooms, as well as rooming-in facilities for parents. Through our comprehensive program, we provide consultation, sleep studies, treatment, and follow-up care conditions including:

  • Circadian rhythm disorders – disrupted sleep cycles because of jet lag, shift work, etc.
  • Excessive daytime sleepiness
  • Insomnia – difficulty falling or staying asleep
  • Narcolepsy – sudden, uncontrollable deep sleep
  • Obstructive sleep apnea – temporary lack of breathing
  • Restless leg syndrome
