Munson Healthcare Foundations are staffed with talented professionals who help donors support the specific funds or services that match their values and interests, allowing them to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

Debra HendersonDebra Henderson, MSHC, Interim President, Munson Healthcare Foundations

Debra Henderson serves as Interim President for Munson Healthcare Foundations. Prior to joining Munson Healthcare in 2013, she worked for The American Cancer Society and The American Heart Association, raising more than $25 million to support disease research, risk awareness, and public health advocacy.

Debra relocated to Traverse City from Charlotte, NC. She holds a dual bachelor of arts degree in marketing and psychology from the University of North Carolina and a master of science degree in health communications from Boston University.

Debra enjoys tennis, kayaking, skiing, and hiking with her dog through all the amazing trails in Traverse City.

Heather Appold, Charitable Giving Officer - East Region

Heather Appold serves as a Charitable Giving Officer for Munson Healthcare Foundations, focusing her efforts on Grayling and Otsego Memorial Hospitals. Originally from Hemlock, MI and a graduate of Central Michigan University, Heather relocated to Gaylord in August 2018. Her early professional years were spent in Saginaw, most recently as Covenant Kids Coordinator raising funds for pediatric patients.

Heather has volunteered through the years with Special Olympics Michigan and is a graduate of the Michigan Firefighters Academy. Heather lives in Gaylord with her husband Drew and son Tyler. Her family loves the outdoors, board games and traveling down state to see family and friends. She is excited to reside in the region and looking forward to exploring the lakes and trails.

Ruth Bloomer

Ruth Bloomer, Senior Leadership Giving Officer

Ruth Bloomer is a senior leadership giving officer for Munson Healthcare Foundations. She has been a Munson Healthcare employee for more than 30 years and involved with fundraising for most of those years. Ruth has helped raise more than $95 million to support Munson Healthcare, Paul Oliver Memorial Hospital, and the health care needs of our region.

Ruth has lived in the upper and lower peninsulas of Michigan. She settled in the Traverse City area in 1978 after completing her master’s degree from Michigan State University.

Ruth has served on numerous committees and boards over the years working on community issues involving youth, senior citizens, the homeless, and schools. She currently serves on the board of the Women’s Resource Center – Grand Traverse.  In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and Golden Retriever.

Kim BiddingerKim Biddinger, Leadership Giving Officer - East Region

Kim Biddinger is the Leadership Giving Officer for Munson Healthcare Foundations, focusing her efforts on Charlevoix, Grayling and Otsego Memorial Hospitals. She has been raising funds for Otsego Memorial Hospital since 2010 and is passionate about connecting donors to causes they care about. Kim was instrumental in raising over $4 million for the "Building the Future of Local Healthcare" capital campaign which includes the hospital's largest gift, naming the Dale E. Johnson Emergency Department. 

Prior to joining Otsego Memorial Hospital Foundation, Kim resided in Birmingham, Michigan and began her career in the legal community focusing on business development and public relations in the greater Detroit area. 

Kim is credentialed as a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) and holds certificates in Non-Profit Executive Leadership and Fund Raising Management from Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy. 

Kim serves on the board of the Indian River Chamber of Commerce and serves as president of the Gaylord Booster Club. While not in the office, Kim enjoys attending her son and daughter's soccer games, skiing, traveling and spending time with family and friends.  

John Gower

John Gower, Charitable Giving Officer - Traverse City, Frankfort and Charlevoix

John Gower serves as the Traverse City, Frankfort and Charlevoix charitable giving officer for Munson Healthcare Foundations. Prior to joining the Foundation in 2017, John spent 10 years as a professional with the Boy Scouts of America in central Indiana and throughout Michigan, focusing on fundraising, membership recruitment, and volunteer engagement.

John resides in Traverse City with his wife, Amanda, and two young children. He holds a bachelor of applied arts degree in integrative public relations and recreation, parks & leisure services administration from Central Michigan University.

John is a lifelong member of the Boy Scouts of America as an Eagle Scout and currently serves on the executive board of the local council. As a runner, he is an active member of the Traverse City Track Club, and especially enjoys camping, hiking, and traveling with his family.

John GowerTom Hardy, Leadership Giving Officer - Cadillac, Frankfort, Manistee and Traverse City

Tom Hardy serves as a Leadership Giving Officer for Munson Healthcare Foundations focusing on Cadillac, Frankfort, Manistee and Traverse City areas. Prior to joining Munson, he spent nearly 18 years in the field of education working in communities throughout northern Michigan on fundraising, student development, and fair play. Tom holds a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting and business administration from Hope College.

Tom, who is a life-long resident of Traverse City, and his wife Betsy, have a long history with Munson Healthcare as Betsy and all 5 of their children were born at Munson Medical Center. In his free time, Tom can be found on the water fishing, sailing, or in the stands cheering on his children. 

Courtney MulderCourtney Mulder, Charitable Giving Officer - Cadillac and Manistee

Courtney Mulder is the charitable giving officer for the Munson Healthcare Cadillac and Manistee Hospital Foundation. She has been associated with Cadillac Hospital since 2013.

Courtney is a Lake City native and lives there today with her husband and three young sons. She holds a bachelor of science degree in business administration with a concentration in marketing and sales from Central Michigan University. Courtney currently serves as the vice-chair for the Cadillac Area Young Professionals Board.

Most of her free time is spent with her family on their pontoon boat in the summer and staying at their family cabin. She also enjoys reading, traveling, spending time with friends, and watching movies at home.

Amy PetersonAmy Peterson, Grants Administration Officer

Amy Peterson serves as the grants officer for Munson Healthcare. She has been with Munson Healthcare since 2015 and is responsible for state and federal grants throughout the Munson Healthcare system. Amy works with federal funders like HRSA, SAMHSA, CDC and the USDA as well as the State of Michigan.

Amy relocated to Traverse City after living in the Detroit area and has a PhD in medical sociology and a master’s degree in health communication, both from Wayne State University. Amy came to Traverse City from the Karmanos Cancer Institute, where she managed NIH funded research studies.

Amy is a long-time volunteer with Camp Catch-a-Rainbow, a camping program for 7-15 year olds with cancer and is a volunteer wish granter for Make-a-Wish Michigan. Amy lives in Traverse City with her husband and two young daughters. She loves biking, hiking, and enjoying the Grand Traverse region with friends and family.

After working the past five years for a retirement community foundation and studying with the Prospect Research Institute, Tami Stanley brings her experience to the Foundation's newest role: Leadership Giving Associate in Major Giving. Tami meets with philanthropic individuals across northern Michigan who have an interest in fulfilling and expanding Munson Healthcare's mission and vision. 

By using her skills in executive administration, customer service, and project planning administration, she will help to support the Foundation's team, board, and volunteer committees. Most of all, she believes in giving back and has a strong belief that everyone deserves quality health care in the communities where they live. 

Tami and her family have recently fulfilled a dream of moving to Manistee, Michigan. She enjoys spending time with her family, reading a good book, playing her flute, painting, and sailing.
