Manistee Emergency Department

Today, the Emergency Department at Manistee Hospital provides care for 15,000 patients per year, nearly double the number since the last renovation in 1991. The good news is we can make our current square footage work. However, it will require a major renovation. We need to reconfigure our current space to:

  1. Establish more privacy and utilize larger rooms for patients and their families
  2. Enhance the trauma room to improve patient care
  3. Improve clinical work areas and patient flow to function more efficiently
  4. Create private waiting areas
  5. Improve safety and security
  6. Cultivate an updated, calming space

The projected cost of renovating the Manistee Hospital Emergency Department is $2.5 million. Munson Healthcare is investing $1.5 million toward this project, relying on philanthropy for the additional $1 million needed for this project. Thanks to support from our generous community members, we have reached our $1 million fundraising goal!

Planning for this project is currently underway. We look forward to sharing updates as information becomes available. Learn more about the Manistee Hospital Emergency Department Renovation Project and how you can keep healthcare strong in our community.

Patient Needs

The Patient Needs Fund provides financial assistance for the urgent needs of patients during a health-related crisis. Medical social workers and case management staff identify and approve financial assistance through this fund, based on patient needs. Immediate assistance is often provided until other resources can be arranged in partnership with other human services agencies.

Help provided through the Patient Needs Fund includes:

  • Gas cards, which allow patients to travel to and from home for medical appointments.
  • Assistance with groceries, medications, rent/mortgage payments, utilities.

Endowment Fund: Create a Legacy

Munson Healthcare Manistee Hospital Foundation’s Endowment Fund helps ensure a lasting legacy of quality health care services in Manistee for future generations.

Thanks to the generosity of our community, we have nearly $600,000 in endowed funds. Having a $1.2 million endowment will enable us to do great things for the health of our community.

As an endowed fund, the principal will not be touched, growing in perpetuity. The interest generated can be used to support hospital endeavors, helping to balance out the economic ups and downs inherent in the health care industry.
