Aquatic Therapy for Chronic or Multi-Joint Pain
If you have chronic or multi-joint pain, aquatic therapy can make it easier and less painful to participate in rehabilitation services. We use this rehabilitation method at Munson Healthcare to improve your functional abilities and help you live a higher quality of life.
Swimming skills are not required to participate in an aqua therapy program. Our program works well for those who need physical therapy, but have difficulty tolerating rehabilitation exercises in a more traditional setting.
Individualized Therapy, Multi-Team Approach
The goal of aquatic therapy at Munson Healthcare is to improve your form and function. We see you in one-on-one treatment sessions — not group sessions — to ensure that your unique goals are met.
After we evaluate your needs, we establish an individualized therapy program for you focused on increasing strength and flexibility - and better controlling your pain. Aqua therapy sessions are staffed by physical therapists and occupational therapists. Our warm and comfortable pool is kept at 92 degrees Fahrenheit and used exclusively for one-on-one therapy.
We also offer the convenience of on-site physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech-language pathology. This allows us to provide a multi-team approach if needed. Aqua therapy requires a prescription from a physician, so we also communicate closely with your physicians to ensure you’re advancing toward your overall goals.

Benefits of Exercising in Water
Even very weak muscles can be strengthened earlier in a therapeutic pool than on land because of the resistive quality of water. Warm water also lets you move more easily and comfortably, enjoying the type of support that a brace or walker provides.
For patients who are recovering from surgery, water provides the support needed to help increase the range of motion in a gravity-reduced environment. This can help improve functional abilities, activities of daily living, and overall strengthening.
