"Everyone has a vice and my vice was smoking,” said Christina Seaberg. “The cigarettes controlled my life. They calmed my nerves. But this program helped me. There is a lot of support and new ideas that you may not be thinking about. If you have the incentive to want to quit smoking, then I suggest going to this class.” Learn more in this Your Health Matters from 7&4 News.

Smoking Cessation and Reduction in Pregnancy Treatment Program (SCRIPT)

Munson Healthcare is implementing a regional program to help pregnant women reduce or stop smoking. SOPHE SCRIPT is the Society of Public Health Educators (SOPHE) Smoking Cessation and Reduction in Pregnancy Treatment Program (SCRIPT). SCRIPT leaders are located where pregnant women visit—prenatal care provider offices, health departments, hospitals, community resources, and play groups, etc.

Program leaders use educational motivational workbooks, DVDs, and personal carbon monoxide detectors to help women who are interested and enrolled in SCRIPT to reduce or stop smoking.

Current SCRIPT sites include:

  • 7 health departments covering 31 counties
  • Munson Healthcare Cadillac OB/GYN
  • Munson Healthcare Grayling Hospital
  • Otsego Memorial Hospital Medical Group

A multi-organizational Perinatal Smoking Cessation Team has been created with funding from the March of Dimes and in partnership with the Northern Michigan Perinatal Collaborative Network partners. Regional training and program development was facilitated largely by the Benzie-Leelanau District Health Department and the Health Department of Northwest Michigan.
