- Bronchial thermoplasty: This procedure is for treating severe asthma in adults. It is performed at Munson Medical Center by pulmonary and critical care specialists. The procedure is a safe, outpatient treatment that mildly heats your airway walls. This heating reduces some of the extra muscle present in the airways. This may allow your airways to stay more open and help you breathe better. This procedure is usually performed under mild sedation during three separate sessions scheduled three weeks apart. Each session lasts about an hour and focuses on a different part of the lung to ensure all affected areas are treated.
