The Traverse City Track Club and Munson Healthcare will link arms to strengthen a popular destination for runners and bring new opportunities to promote healthier lifestyles.
Munson Healthcare will serve as the presenting partner of the 37th annual Bayshore Marathon, half marathon, and 10K and will help launch the Munson Healthcare Bayshore Kids Marathon, a new 1.2-mile fun run for children held at the Bayshore venue during race day, May 25, 2019.
“We are excited to partner with Munson Healthcare so we can work together to lead the way with the shared vision to see our community become healthier through positive lifestyle choices,” said Lisa Taylor, executive director of the Traverse City Track Club. “Our Bayshore events and new kids marathon tie in well with Munson Healthcare’s Choose to Be Well initiative that promotes physical activity and nutrition.”
Munson Healthcare President and CEO Ed Ness said the partnership with one of the oldest and largest non-profit running clubs in the nation is a win for both organizations.
“Our Choose to Be Well campaign focuses on boosting the community health of the region and providing opportunities for area residents and our staff that will engage us all in a healthier lifestyle,” he said. “We are pleased to come alongside T.C. Track Club for this year’s events.”
The kid’s marathon allows participants the option to log 25 miles of running or walking leading up to race day. The program will be promoted to 7 - 12-year-old children in elementary schools throughout the region.
Longtime Bayshore Race Director Daniel Siderman said he’s grateful for Munson Healthcare’s support in reaching and inspiring a new generation of runners. The kids event will not be timed but allows them to have fun and cross the finish line along with the 7,000 other racers in the Bayshore events. The kids event will by directed by Therese Larson, who formerly led youth running for Girls on the Run of Northwest Michigan for 17 years.
