Are You at Greater Risk for Serious Flu-Related Illnesses?

Many people in our community are at higher risk* for developing serious complications from the flu. These complications can cause pneumonia, bronchitis, and ear and sinus infections that can lead to hospitalization or even death.

People most at risk include:

• Children under five years old, but especially under 2 years of age
• Adults 65 years or older
• Pregnant women (and up to two weeks postpartum)
• Residents of nursing homes or long-term care facilities
• People who have undergone transplants and anyone taking immunosuppressant medications
• People who have been diagnosed with asthma, long-lasting lung diseases like chronic obstructive pulmonary COPD and cystic fibrosis, heart disease, certain blood, kidney, liver, endocrine or liver disorders and those with a weakened immune system due conditions like HIV/AIDS and cancer.
