No Surprise Billing Act — Requirements for Munson Healthcare

No Surprise Billing Act — Requirements for Munson Healthcare
12.30.2021

Several No Surprise Billing Act regulations go into effect January 1, 2022. Under these regulations, certain Munson Healthcare hospital departments, outpatient clinics, and provider offices must provide information to patients about their rights and protections against surprise medical bills.

A multidisciplinary team has been working to develop the necessary elements since the regulatory guidance was introduced. Early in the new year, we’ll be introducing a number of components to address these requirements.

  • Patient notice — Munson Healthcare’s disclosure notice regarding patient protections against surprise billing will be made available to the departments and offices required to offer them to patients, along with additional instruction and scripting. Munson Healthcare has posted the following patient disclosure notices to our For Providers Forms webpage:
  • Forms — Forms to be completed when a patient is self-pay/uninsured or out of network for the provider are in development.
  • Signs — Information for patients about surprise billing and how to request a good-faith estimate must be posted in designated public areas. These will be printed and installed in the coming weeks.
  • Website — The surprise billing disclosure and information about obtaining a good-faith estimate of the costs of medical care will be posted on our website by January 1.
  • FAQs — An FAQ to help answer staff and patient questions is in development.
