Exercise is a critical component of wellness. Fitness classes are available to patients, family members and caregivers, as well as the community. Exercise classes are located in Traverse City at the Cowell Family Cancer Center in the Health and Wellness Suite or outside on the second floor terraces, weather permitting.

The Cowell Family Cancer Center exercise program features a robust yoga program, Pilates, and strength-training classes. We include curriculum specifically designed for cancer patients. Exercise instructors have completed specialized oncology exercise training or certifications.

Fitness Navigator

The Cowell Family Cancer Center offers patients one complimentary appointment with the fitness navigator, a certified cancer exercise specialist. During this appointment, the fitness navigator will help the patient determine reachable fitness goals, possible exercise restrictions, and create a plan for adding exercise to their life. The fitness navigator can break down the class schedule and descriptions or create a home exercise plan. This appointment can be made before, during, or after cancer treatment. Appointments are required and additional appointments may be purchased.

Fitness Navigator: Annemarie Wigton, 231-499-7174 or email awigton@mhc.net.

Recovery on Lake Leelanau is a rowing team for cancer survivors and others who want to be active in recovery. Prior rowing experience is not required.

Attending a Learn 2 Row class first is strongly recommended. It is designed to teach the basics of rowing and prepare you to get out on the water.
