Annual Katie Heintz Basketball Tournament

Katie Heintz

Date: Saturday, March 7, 2020
Time: 5 pm to 9 pm
Location: St. Francis High School

Join us for this tournament honoring Katie Heintz and to raise money for kids battling cancer! Students will take on their teachers on the basketball court at Grand Traverse Area Catholic Schools for the benefit of northern Michigan kids who are fighting cancer. Now in its 15th year, the Katie Heintz Tournament will donate money to the Munson Healthcare Pediatric Infusion Clinic, which provide local treatment for children battling cancer and blood disorders. Since its start, the tournament has raised over $187,000.

A spaghetti dinner begins at 5 pm and is followed by games at 6 pm. The entrance cost is a freewill donation with a suggested donation for dinner of $5 per person or $20 for a family. The Katie Heintz Tournament began in 2006 as a memorial for Katie Heintz, a 16-year old St. Francis student who died of leukemia. At the time of her illness, there were no northern Michigan options for treatment. A collaboration between Helen DeVos Children's Hospital and Munson Medical Center has established a clinic to treat pediatric hematology and oncology patients in the Cowell Family Cancer Center.
