Nate Doerr's Birthday Fundraiser
For his birthday this year, Nate Doerr isn’t asking for gifts. He’s asking for something much bigger!
Eleven-year-old Nate, a hockey player with the Grand Traverse Hockey Association, has decided to dedicate his birthday to supporting Munson Healthcare’s Cancer Patient Needs Fund. Instead of buying him presents, Nate has asked his loved ones to donate to Cancer Patient Needs.
Nate's mom, Jess, shared the following with the Munson Healthcare Foundations team:
"Nate is incredibly excited to make this dream a reality! I asked him why he wanted to have a fundraiser, and this was his response: 'My Mom went through cancer, and cancer is a terrible thing to go through. I would be grateful to raise money for the Cancer Patient Needs Fund so that people can get better and know that others are there for them and care. I also want to thank the Cowell Family Cancer Center for saving my Mom.'”
Nate's family is hosting a friendly "parents vs. kids" hockey game on Saturday, February 21, to celebrate Nate's special day and his incredible generosity.

About the Cancer Patient Needs Fund
Our Patient Needs Fund is dedicated to helping cancer patients in need throughout northern Michigan. The fund provides financial assistance for supportive care when other means have been exhausted. Supportive care includes, but is not limited to, transportation, childcare, groceries, utilities, prosthetics, and more.
