After nine years of leading Charlevoix Hospital with heart, humility, and purpose, President Joanne Schroeder has announced that she will retire effective July 1, 2026.

“It has truly been an honor to serve this community and its hospital,” said Schroeder. “Charlevoix Hospital is special because of its people—the caregivers, staff, providers, and community members who show up every day with compassion and pride. I will always be grateful for the opportunity to be part of this team.”

During her tenure, Schroeder became known for her people-first leadership style, her strong advocacy for staff, her focus on patient-centered care, and her deep engagement in the Charlevoix community. She cultivated a culture of respect, collaboration, and trust that continues to shape the hospital today.

“Joanne’s leadership has had a lasting impact on Charlevoix Hospital,” said Laura Glenn, Munson Healthcare Chief Operating Officer. “She has led with integrity, warmth, and an unwavering commitment to both caregivers and patients. Her legacy will continue to be felt well beyond her retirement.”

As Schroeder prepares for her next chapter, Munson Healthcare is implementing a thoughtful leadership transition designed to ensure stability, continuity, and strong local presence. Rather than backfilling the local president role, Munson is advancing a proven regional leadership model—one that has been successfully adopted across other regions of the healthcare system and aligns with its Regional Care Transformation Plan. As part of this approach, regional leaders will maintain a regular and visible presence at Charlevoix Hospital, working closely with local leadership to support staff, patients, and daily operations.

Effective July 2, 2026, Charlevoix Hospital will be supported by an experienced East Region leadership team:

  • Kirsten Korth-White will continue to serve as East Region President and will also serve as president for Charlevoix, Grayling, and Otsego Memorial Hospitals, providing strategic oversight, alignment, and vision.
  • Rob Richardson will remain Chief Operating Officer for Charlevoix, Grayling, and Otsego Memorial Hospitals, overseeing operations and supporting continued growth and integration.
  • Mike Hodnett will continue in his role as Chief Nursing Officer across the three hospitals, ensuring excellence and consistency in clinical care.
  • Dr. Kevin Omilusik will continue to serve as East Region Chief Medical Officer, providing clinical leadership and advancing high-quality, patient-centered care.
  • Sarah McCafferty will continue to serve as Director of Nursing at Charlevoix Hospital. She will be closely supported by the regional leaders who will have a regular onsite presence, ensuring accessibility, collaboration, and ongoing connection with staff.

“This transition gives me great confidence in the future of Charlevoix Hospital,” Schroeder said. “The leadership team stepping forward knows this organization well and cares deeply about our patients, staff, and community. I’m excited to see what they will accomplish together.”

Munson Healthcare will remain deeply committed to being a strong, visible presence in the Charlevoix and surrounding communities—continuing the engagement, involvement, and trusted relationships that Joanne so thoughtfully built.
