When a child struggles with snoring, breathing difficulties during sleep, excessive daytime sleepiness, or other sleep concerns, families often travel hours to find answers. Munson Healthcare is helping bring that care closer to home.

Pediatric sleep medicine specialist Dr. Rebecca Byrnes is expanding services in Munson Healthcare's South Region, providing care for patients ages 5 and older at Munson Healthcare Cadillac Hospital and Munson Healthcare Manistee Hospital. Byrnes also sees patients in Traverse City, complementing existing pediatric sleep services in Charlevoix and expanding access across Northern Michigan.

"Sleep plays a vital role in a child's growth, learning, behavior, and overall well-being," said Byrnes. "I'm excited to work with families in Cadillac and Manistee to identify the causes of sleep concerns and develop treatment plans that help children sleep better, feel better and thrive."

Munson Healthcare's Sleep Disorders Center provides evaluation, treatment and ongoing management for conditions including sleep apnea, narcolepsy, restless legs syndrome, chronic snoring, excessive daytime sleepiness and pediatric sleep disorders. Services include consultations, sleep studies, home sleep testing, CPAP and BiPAP management and personalized treatment plans.

"This is big news waking up for," said Dr. Michael Sand, Sleep Disorders Physician at Munson Healthcare Charlevoix Hospital. "With Dr. Byrnes joining our 'dream' team, we're thrilled to welcome her to Northern Michigan and excited to expand access to exceptional sleep care. We think this is going to be a great addition."

The expansion reflects Munson Healthcare's commitment to making specialty care more accessible throughout Northern Michigan.

"Bringing pediatric sleep expertise to Cadillac and Manistee means families can receive earlier diagnosis, treatment and support closer to home," said Dr. Abdul Malik, medical director of Munson Healthcare's Sleep Disorders Center. "That's an important step in improving care and outcomes for children across our region."
