Traverse City-based non-profit receives Community Health Hero Award

Munson Healthcare has recognized Freedom Builders of America with its Community Health Hero award.

The Community Health Hero Award was presented to Skip Brown, founder and executive director of the faith-based local non-profit organization which focuses on home repair projects for the needy in communities across northwest Michigan. The organization works with volunteers to do nearly 150 projects a year for clients that may be just one step from homelessness.

Projects may involve anything from building a wheelchair ramp or fixing plumbing, to patching leaky roofs, plugging holes in floors, and much more. Some of the projects qualify as complete home makeovers.

The award was presented by the Munson Healthcare Community Health Committee.

“I have worked with Skip and the good people at Freedom Builders on several projects in the Kalkaska area,” said Dan Johnson, chair of the Munson Healthcare Community Health Committee. “Freedom Builders has helped many people maintain their homes in a safer and healthier environment.”

More information on the Community Health Hero Award, as well as past winners, is available at munsonhealthcare.org/communityhealth-heroes.
