Munson Healthcare Otsego Memorial Hospital marked a milestone today with a heartwarming Time Capsule and Beam Signing event, bringing together current and former employees, donors, patients, and community members to celebrate the hospital’s past, present, and future.

Over the past few weeks, hundreds gathered to sign a structural beam plate that was placed today in the hospital’s upcoming expansion, symbolizing the strength and unity of the Gaylord community. Attendees also contributed to a time capsule that will be sealed within the new building, preserving memories and mementos for future generations.
The time capsule includes an array of items that reflect the hospital’s culture and community impact over the past year: brochures, photographs, thank-you cards, a cafeteria menu, a letter from the hospital president, and predictions for the future of healthcare in Gaylord. Additionally, three employee donors were invited to contribute personal items – collectible cards, a small quilt, and a surgical department name badge - highlighting the personal connections and pride staff have in their work.
“This event is a beautiful reminder of the legacy we’re building together,” said Rob Richardson, President of Otsego Memorial Hospital. “The beam and time capsule represent not just our physical growth, but the spirit of care, dedication, and community that defines our hospital.”
The celebration also highlighted the Otsego Memorial Hospital Transformation and Expansion Project, a $33 million investment in services for the Gaylord and surrounding communities. This project will significantly expand the hospital’s capacity to care for patients in the ICU, acute care, and labor and delivery units. Construction began in fall 2024 and is expected to be completed in 2026.
Donors have played a vital role in making this expansion possible. To date, nearly $1 million has been raised by Munson Healthcare Foundations toward a $2 million fundraising goal. “A strong local hospital is important to me for many reasons, which is why I’m proud to support this initiative,” shared Gary Vollmer, owner of Otsego Resort and donor to the Transformation and Expansion project. “When healthcare is available locally, my family benefits. Employers benefit, and so does the entire community. People can get the care they need.”
