Recovering from Surgery with Compassion and a View

12.29.2017
Surgery requires a recovery. Paul Oliver Living and Rehabilitation Center offers a perch on the shores of Lake Michigan to get back on one’s feet and move forward with life.

Kalkaska resident Joda Stockwell knows that fact well. A fall from a ladder resulted in a severely broken leg and the need for recovery and rehabilitation following her four-day surgical experience at Munson Medical Center.

“Emotionally and physically they did exactly what I needed,” she said. In a note to Paul Oliver’s staff she penned, “It is obvious that you do not just show up for a job. You take an active interest, heart and soul, in the people you care for every day. Your dedication to those who are completely dependent on you is evident in all you do.”

Facility Director Connie Napier, R.N., said the center’s full service rehabilitation program offers highly trained visiting specialists and a range of skilled therapy services, physical, occupational, as well as speech and craniosacral therapies.

“Our program caters to short-term stays for people who cannot go straight home after they have been discharged from the hospital,” Napier said. “If it’s for a few days or a few weeks, people often need time to regain their strength and ability to care for themselves following surgery or an illness.”

Therapy staff have one goal, to help residents return home safely. With a four-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, residents can be confident in Paul Oliver Living and Rehabilitation Center’s well-trained compassionate team, modern facility and beautiful setting.

Stockwell said she initially needed assistance from two staff members any time she had to leave her bed. She always found them positive and helpful.

“They were all wonderful. I had a few very rough days before coming to them,” she said. “The people, the management, there is not a one of them that was not amazing.”
