Travel Clinic Reopens at Munson Medical Center

Travel Clinic Reopens at Munson Medical Center
01.29.2024

After a temporary pause for relocation, travel clinic services are once again available through Munson Healthcare. What was previously managed by Munson’s Infectious Disease clinic will now be housed in the Occupational Health and Medicine clinic at Foster Family Community Health Center.

Foreign travel, while exciting and rewarding, can come with certain risks. Many parts of the world have diseases not typically found in northern Michigan or the United States. Diseases can be transmitted by insects, food, and water. To prevent serious illness, Munson Healthcare recommends a visit to our travel clinic when your plans include visits to Africa, Asia, and Latin America. While all international travel can be assessed at our clinic, these three areas come with the most risk for illness.

Munson Healthcare’s travel clinic provides personalized medical consultation for recommended immunizations, medications, and identification of potential risks. “Be certain to plan ahead,” said Elizabeth Hunter, DO, physician at Munson Healthcare. “Appointments for travel medicine visits should be scheduled at least 4-6 weeks prior to your departure. We are here to provide guidance and preventative measure to keep you safe so that you can have the best possible experience during your travels abroad.”

No referrals are necessary as the services are not billable to insurance. Some insurance companies, however, may reimburse travelers for their expenses. Please check with your insurance carrier for specific details.

Appointments can be made by contacting the travel clinic at 231-935-8590 or by sending an email to occupationalhealth@mhc.net.  Clinic hours are Monday – Thursday from 7:30 am – 5 pm and Fridays from 7:30 am – 4 pm. The travel clinic is located in the Occupational Health and Medicine clinic at Foster Family Community Health Center, 550 Munson Avenue in Traverse City.
