Update from the Lab — “Blue Top” Tube Shortage Continues

There continues to be a nationwide shortage of sodium citrate “blue top” blood collection tubes (used for coagulation testing), which is expected to last into September 2021. In May, MHC laboratories stopped collecting a “blue top” tube unless testing was ordered. More stringent measures will need to be required/implemented in order for the current stock to last as long as possible. Stay tuned for more information.
