Munson Healthcare and University of Michigan Health have partnered to provide a full complement of clinical and consultative Maternal-Fetal Medicine services to our communities across the region. This partnership includes in-person visits at Munson Medical Center, telemedicine consults, asynchronous ultrasound, and around-the-clock consultation from Michigan Medicine’s team of Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialists. From pre-conception to post-partum, high-risk pregnant patients and their unborn babies will have greater access to specialty care, closer to home. Michigan Medicine’s expertise in fetal surgery and other sub-specialties will help expand MHC’s Maternal-Fetal Medicine program and the work established by Dr. June Murphy.
Here are some answers to frequently asked questions that we have received from referring providers.
How can I refer my patient?
The referral process hasn’t changed.
- Providers/Practices Using Cerner Ambulatory: Order MHC Maternal Fetal Medicine referral through Ambulatory orders.
- All other providers/practices: Fax MFM referral form with all appropriate supporting documentation to 231-935-2127.

What is the process for a phone consult?
To gain phone access to one of the MFM physicians for “curbside consults” or guidance on patient management:
- Call the M-LINE: 800-962-3555
- Ask for the MFM provider covering Munson Healthcare
- Includes 24/7 availability by phone for urgent requests and consultation

Are appointments in-person or virtual?
Currently we are offering both in-person and virtual visits based on provider availability, patient preference, and if the patient has the capability for a virtual visit (phone, computer, Wi-Fi access). In-person appointments will be seen in our Traverse City office at this time with potential future in-person clinics in select regional OB/GYN practices.
How soon will my patient be seen in your office?
We are triaging referrals and working to accommodate as many new patients as possible.
