New MHC Masking and Meeting Guidelines Went Into Effect Monday, June 21, 2021

Universal Masking remains in place for all Healthcare Team members, patients, and visitors in patient care and visitor areas regardless of vaccination status.

Retesting Patients With a Possible False Positive COVID-19 Test

  • As the COVID-19 positivity rate in our region decreases, the risk of false positive test results increases.
  • A positive test result may need confirmatory testing if the person has a low likelihood of COVID-19 infection.
  • Per MDHHS, a positive is a positive until the CDC steps are followed.
  • Confirmatory testing of possible false positive COVID-19 test result can be performed one of two ways.

Sports Physicals and AAP Guidance on Return to Play

  • Current AAP guidance encourages that a sports physical be conducted by the patient’s PCP in conjunction with a well-visit.
  • MHC endorses this approach.
  • In addition, the AAP has provided some minor updates to its guidelines on sports clearance or return to play for student athletes with history of COVID-19 infection.

MHC Resumes Nebulizer Treatments at Ambulatory Offices

MHC’s ambulatory practices have resumed performing outpatient nebulized treatments in the office.

REMINDER: Patients Should be Swabbed for COVID Prior to Transfer

To provide the best care for our patients and avoid delays, a COVID swab must be obtained and sent to the lab prior to transferring a patient to a Munson Healthcare hospital. The patient’s test result should be shared, if available, but ED providers do not need to delay transfer while waiting for a result.

Isotope Shortage for Gallbladder Imaging

  • We are experiencing a shortage of Mebrofenin cold kits, which are used for gallbladder imaging.
  • There will be no Mebrofenin cold kits made for this weekend or the following July 4th holiday weekend.
  • It is also likely that Mebrofenin cold kits will only be made on specific weekdays.
  • We are working diligently to minimize any potential negative impacts of the isotope shortage on our patients and will let providers know once we receive additional supply.

AHA Certifications No Longer Extended

AHA extensions are no longer being granted and anyone who has an expired certification – BCLS, ACLS, PALS – as either a provider or instructor, must complete their re-certification.
