Monoclonal Antibody (mAb) Therapy Referrals

  • We have simplified the mAb referral process for providers.
  • Patients can now call and request an evaluation for mAb therapy themselves.
  • We have launched a new Monoclonal Antibody Therapy webpage for patients.
  • Patients can call their PCP or Ask-a-Nurse to discuss mAb treatment options.
  • Ask-a-Nurse will identify eligible patients; mAB support line nurse will answer any questions.
  • This change allows us to reach some of our more vulnerable patients who may not have a relationship with a PCP but would benefit from mAb therapy.

All COVID-19 Testing Has Moved In-House

  • All COVID-19 testing (including pre-procedural) is now being conducted
in-house and not sent to outside reference laboratories.
  • This will reduce our overall turn-around time for COVID-19 testing.
  • Until we can fine-tune our internal processes, the pre-procedural COVID-19 specimen collection process has not changed and must occur 4 days prior to the scheduled procedure for all MHC specimen collection locations.
  • We are working to reduce pre-procedural COVID-19 testing to 3 days prior to the procedure and will let providers know once we’re ready for that transition.

Flu Testing No Longer Being Ordered with Inpatient/ED COVID-19 PCR Testing

As flu season is over, a flu test will no longer be automatically ordered along with the COVID-19 test for MHC ED and inpatients who are symptomatic.

Telehealth Reimbursement Updates

  • Video Visits: All payers are continuing to allow Evaluation & Management (E&M) visits to be billed when services are rendered via video.
  • Phone Visits: The following payers are still allowing E&M visits to be billed for telephone visits: Aetna, Aetna Medicare Advantage, BCBS, BCN, Humana, Humana Advantage, Medicaid and HMOs, Tricare.
  • Federal Telehealth Legislation: CMS has stated they plan to extend the Public Health Emergency (PHE) until at least the end of 2021, so all current federal telehealth legislation will remain until then. There are several bills being introduced to continue telehealth coverage after the PHE expires that MHC continues to monitor.

Update from the Lab — “Blue Top” Tube Shortage Continues

  • There continues to be a nationwide shortage of sodium citrate “blue top” blood collection tubes (used for coagulation testing) that is expected to last into Sept.
  • In May, MHC labs stopped collecting a “blue top” tube unless testing was ordered. More stringent measures will need to be required/implemented in order for the current stock to last as long as possible.
