Clinical Guidance Regarding 3rd Dose of mRNA COVID-19 Vaccine
|
- Current EUA only allows for the administration of 3rd dose of an mRNA (i.e., Moderna, Pfizer) COVID-19 vaccine for moderately or severely immunocompromised individuals.
- It is recommended that the patient receive the same vaccine (i.e., Moderna, Pfizer) as their first 2 doses, if it is available.
- There is no booster (i.e., 2nd dose) of Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine currently recommended for immunocompromised individuals due to insufficient data to support a recommendation.

- The inpatient COVID-19 vaccine program has expanded to Cadillac Hospital, Grayling Hospital, KMHC, & POMH.
- Patients are screened at admission then nursing administers the COVID-19 vaccine to eligible patients who consent. COVID-19 positive patients are not eligible for the vaccine.
- We are working to expand to eligible pediatric inpatients (12-17 years of age) for the 1st dose of Pfizer.

CDC Recommendations for Eye Protection in Nursing Homes
|
The CDC recommends the following for Healthcare Team professionals working in facilities located in areas with moderate to substantial community transmission: Wear eye protection during patient care encounters to ensure the eyes are also protected from exposure to COVID-19 respiratory secretions.
|
Clarification to Visitation Policy
|
- The current visitation restriction is one visitor at a time in a facility.
|
Additional Clarification on Meetings, Public Events, and Travel
|
- At meetings: Social distancing should be maintained at all times, except during required hands-on training where social distancing cannot be maintained.
- At MHC-sponsored/organized public events: All Healthcare Team members should be masked and practice social distancing.
- For travel: No MHC travel restrictions are recommended at this time, however all members of the Healthcare Team are encouraged to follow CDC guidelines for travel (testing, quarantining, etc.)
