When to Seek Medical Attention

Report the following symptoms to your healthcare provider right away, day or night.
- Fever of 38°C (100.4°F) or higher, shaking, chills, or the inability to warm up
- Shortness of breath, wheezing, difficulty breathing, closing of the throat, facial swelling, hives (possible allergic reaction), if severe, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room
During business hours, call the Cancer and Infusion Center at 989-731-7760 and ask to speak with your physician’s primary nurse.
After hours, or on weekends/holidays, Please call the Munson Healthcare Operator at 800-468-6766 to reach the OMH On-Call Oncologist.
Contact your healthcare provider within 24 hours of noticing any of the following symptoms (require medical attention, but not a medical emergency).
- Nausea that interferes with ability to eat and unrelieved with prescribed medication
- Vomiting more than 4-5 episodes in a 24-hour period
- Diarrhea (4-6 episodes in a 24-hour period) despite use of anti-diarrhea medication and diet modifications
- Constipation (lack of bowel movement up to 24-48 hours longer than your normal routine)
- Unusual bleeding (black or tarry stools, blood in stools or urine, coughing up blood)
- No urine output in a 12-hour period
- Extreme fatigue (unable to carry on self-care activities)
- Yellowing of the skin or eyes
- New onset swelling of the arms or legs (especially in one limb)
- Rapid weight gain
- Signs of infection such as redness or swelling, pain with swallowing, coughing up mucous, or painful urination
- Sore mouth, lips, or throat with blisters and/or sores
It is important to let your healthcare provider know if you feel ill or have any severe side effects, even if they are not mentioned above.
