In Loving Memory of Lynn Drew

a mother and daughter hold handsIn 2016, my mom spent about four weeks in the care of the Munson Healthcare Hospice House and the experience we had was sincerely the best we could have ever asked for.

The caring and knowledgeable staff took time to get to know myself, my husband, my mom and even our pets! Throughout our time there the staff made us feel welcome and made sure that we, the family, were consistently updated on her condition and what to expect as the weeks, days, and hours passed.

I sincerely don’t know how we would have made it through this process without the Hospice House. During that time as a newlywed, a new homeowner, a Master’s student, a high school teacher, and adjunct professor, I was lost in the world of navigating how to advocate for the best care for my mom as her medical power of attorney.

They gave me such comfort and confidence in my mom’s care that I was able to continue working in the U.P. and Cheboygan, traveling back and forth to Traverse City for long weekends. I knew that I could check in at any time or that I would get a call if there were any significant changes.

Additionally, they made me feel welcome as I stayed many days and nights with my mom, getting quality time with her and being able to continue to work as needed during my stays thanks to the resources available to the family.

I will never forget the care that I felt the moment the nurses came to get me to inform me that my mom had passed. These wonderful women wrapped me in the warmest hug as I processed the loss. They talked me through the rest of the process and accepted the waiting room full of supporters that I had. The whole experience was surreal and full of understanding. I cannot imagine what it would have been like anywhere else.

Sincerely,

Kelsey Gamble
