To apply by mail, download the application for health coverage from the State of Michigan website and return the completed form to the address noted. Visit michigan.gov/medicaid for more information.

Medicaid Redeterminations

Medicaid redetermination must be done every year. 

Important Steps

  1. Update your address, phone number, and email address at michigan.gov/mibridges or contact your local MDHHS office.
  2. When you receive your redetermination packet, report any changes to your household size or income. 
  3. Return your completed packet to your local MDHHS office in person or by mail or submit it online. Be sure to submit by the due date or your coverage may end. 

If you are no longer eligible for Medicaid coverage, you can purchase health insurance through HealthCare.gov.

Who qualifies for Medicaid?

Michigan Medicaid eligibility is primarily based on residency, citizenship, and income. Most adults under 65 may qualify if their household income is approximately 133-138% of the federal poverty level or below. Specials programs are available for children (up to 217% federal poverty level), and for individuals who are aged, blind, or disabled.

How do I apply for Medicaid?

Proof of identity, Social Security number, income verifications, bank statements, and tax returns

Do I have to re-enroll every year?

Yes, Medicaid eligibility must be renewed annually. 

Can I have Medicaid and Medicare at the same time?

Yes, residents who meet eligibility requirements may be covered by both Medicaid and Medicare.  

Can I have a primary insurance and still be eligible for Medicaid?

Yes, some residents with other coverage may also qualify for Medicaid.
