2022 Northern Michigan HIV Summit Virtual Conference

This free, one-day annual event is open to health care professionals and the public. Thomas Judd Care Center hosts speakers on current topics regarding HIV treatment, prevention, and other related topics. Continuing education credits are offered.

Benjamin Raap, MPH, HIV, MCM

Benjamin RaapRaap is the Cancer Screening Project Navigator for the Cancer Prevention and Control Section of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. This project aims to help people living with HIV get screened for colorectal, cervical, breast and lung cancer in Michigan.

Demetre Daskalakis, MD

Demetre DaskalakisDaskalakis is the CDC’s Director of the Division of HIV National Center for HIV, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention (NCHHSTP). He is recognized nationally and internationally as an expert in HIV prevention and has focused much of his career on the treatment and prevention of HIV and other STIs as an activist physician with a focus on LGBTQIA+ communities.

Keynote Speaker: Peter Gallagher, actor and advocate

Peter Gallagher

Peter Gallagher is an award-winning actor on stage, film and TV. He has appeared in over 50 films and is probably best known for his role as Sandy Cohen in on the hit TV series, The O.C, Chief Dodds in Law & Order: SVU, and currently, Nick in Grace and Frankie and Dr. Hamilton on Grey’s Anatomy.

Gallagher received the Steve Chase Humanitarian Award from The Desert AIDS Project. He’ll discuss his experiences with how HIV/AIDS affected the New York theater scene and his close friends during the early 1980s, and his work with Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
