Second Update: Tragic Incident: Updated Munson Healthcare Media Statement – 7/26 @ 8:30 p.m.
Following the violent attack at the Walmart in Traverse City this afternoon, here are the patient conditions that we can currently share with the news media:
- Munson Healthcare is currently treating 11 patients as a result of this stabbing incident – 5 are in serious condition and 6 are in critical condition at this time.
Munson Healthcare leadership wishes to thank our amazing staff, which responded commendably and admirably under these tragic circumstances. Every single department and team at Munson Medical Center, and throughout our healthcare system, stepped up to ensure not only that the victims of this tragedy were cared for, but that all our other patients continued to receive the care that they needed as well.
Our hearts continue to go out to the victims and their families.

Munson Healthcare is aware of the tragic incident that occurred earlier today at the Walmart in Traverse City. Our thoughts are with all those affected by this event, and we are grateful to the first responders and law enforcement for their swift action.
We can confirm that 10 victims are being treated at Munson Medical Center. As a result, our Emergency Department is currently experiencing a higher-than-usual volume of patients.
We are working closely with local authorities and emergency services to ensure the best possible care for those impacted. We ask for the public’s patience and understanding as we manage this increased demand.
