Reminder: Changes to Munson Healthcare Pre-Operative COVID-19 Testing

A reminder of process changes for COVID-19 testing prior to a procedure or surgery:

  • Allowable specimen collection window has changed to 3 days prior
  • All pre-procedural specimen collection has transitioned to Munson Healthcare laboratories as our COVID-19 mobile collection locations have closed

Regional Cases of Legionnaires’ Disease on the Rise

Reports of Legionnaires’ disease to local and state public health have increased over the past weeks. Providers are reminded to test patients with healthcare-associated pneumonia using the preferred diagnostic tests for Legionnaires’ disease:

  • Culture of lower respiratory secretions on selective media
  • Legionella urinary antigen test

Isotope Shortage for Gallbladder Imaging

  • We continue to experience a shortage of Mebrofenin cold kits, which are used for gallbladder imaging.
  • There will be no Mebrofenin cold kits made for the weekend (July 24-25).
  • Schedule permitting, we are able to conduct gallbladder imaging scheduled before 10 am, Monday – Friday.
  • We anticipate that the isotope shortage will last through July.

Hospital Optimization Project (HOP)

ED, UC, and providers (excluding Anesthesiology, Pathology, and Radiology) practicing in one of the 5 Cerner hospitals (Cadillac Hospital, Grayling Hospital, KMHC, MMC, POMH) must complete Dragon Medical One (DMO) and HOP education prior to the HOP go live on Sept. 14. In-person classroom education for HOP can be scheduled using HealthStream. Both DMO and HOP have online education, which is required as well.
