Every person has a reason.
A survivor celebrating another year. A daughter remembering someone she loved. A friend supporting someone still in the fight.
This October, those stories will come together once again as Munson Healthcare Manistee Hospital invites the community to participate in Paint the Town Pink 2026, a beloved tradition that honors those affected by cancer while raising awareness and support for local patients. For more than a decade, the event has helped to fund breast health services at Manistee Hospital. This year's activities will support the Cancer Patient Needs Fund, which provides non-medical financial assistance to patients undergoing cancer treatment.
Empower Hour - Thursday, October 1, 5:30 p.m.
Paint the Town Pink begins with the “Empower Hour,” an evening focused on women's health, education and encouragement. This Free event will be held at the West Shore Community College Building, 400 River St. Register here.
"Screening and early detection remain some of the most powerful tools we have in the fight against breast cancer," said Dr. Stephanie Fitzgerald, OB-GYN at Munson Healthcare. "Empower Hour is about helping women better understand their health, stay current with recommended screenings and feel empowered to advocate for themselves. We want every woman to leave feeling informed, supported, and inspired to take the next step in her healthcare journey."
Run the Town Pink 5K and Remembrance Walk - Saturday, October 3, 9 a.m.
The community will gather for the second annual Run the Town Pink 5K, a scenic race through downtown Manistee and along the Lake Michigan shoreline that celebrates strength, survivorship and community support. Register for the 5K.
Following the race, survivors, families and supporters are invited to participate in the Remembrance Walk, a free event honoring those affected by cancer through a shared walk of remembrance, solidarity and hope. Participants are encouraged to wear pink as the community comes together to support one another.
"Every runner arrives at the starting line with a story," said Kevin Kott, Race Director. "Some are running for themselves, some for someone they love and some in memory of those they've lost. Every step is a reminder that no one faces cancer alone and that hope grows stronger when a community comes together."
The public is encouraged to attend Empower Hour, register for the 5K, participate in the Remembrance Walk and help spread awareness throughout Manistee County.
"This event is about showing up," organizers said. "Showing up for survivors, for those currently fighting, for families carrying loss and for the future health of our community."
