Due to the wildfire smoke from Canada, emergency departments in Michigan have been experiencing higher than average visits due to asthma. The state is also seeing an increase in pediatric hospitalizations due to asthma exacerbations.

Even short periods of unhealthy PM2.5 levels can trigger asthma attacks requiring emergency treatment.

Please advise parents of high-risk kids to monitor air quality data prior to engaging in outdoor activities.
