Thomas Judd Care Center Offers Free HIV/AIDS Summit Sept. 29

Munson Healthcare today announced that the Thomas Judd Care Center will host the 2023 Northern Michigan HIV Summit for healthcare professionals and the public from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 29, at Kirkbride Hall in The Village at Grand Traverse Commons. A virtual attendance option is also available.

Thomas Judd Care Center Manager David Rushlow said the free HIV Summit will offer four educational sessions related to HIV/AIDS issues – including a keynote panel discussion. Continuing education credits are available. 

Thomas Judd Care Center serves about 150 clients in northern Michigan and offers free HIV testing by appointment. The clinic strives to promote wellness and prevent transmission of HIV by providing holistic-based services to improve the quality of life for patients with HIV/AIDS from U.S. 10 to the Mackinac Bridge.

This year’s summit will also include the presentation of the first-ever Community Collaborations Award.

Sessions include:

  • “LGBTQIA+ Inclusion in Care” with Christina Walsh, LLMSW, a counselor with Mental Wellness Counseling of Traverse City.
  • “Cognitive Dysfunction in HIV and Alzheimer’s” with Dr. Bruno Giordani, associate director of the Michigan Alzheimer’s Disease Center.
  • “Urgency for National PrEP Program” with Jeremiah Johnson, executive director of PrEP4All of New York City.
  • A keynote panel discussion on “More Equality and Less Stigma in Healthcare” moderated by Munson Healthcare Chief Medical, Quality and Safety Officer Joe Santangelo, M.D. Panelists include Johnson, Michigan State Senator Jeremy Moss, and Nina West, a national activist, Founder of the Nina West Foundation and HIV/AIDS advocate.
