As clinical outcomes literature shows shorter courses of antibiotic therapy are as effective as longer courses for COPD and pneumonia, the following durations have been added to antibiotic orders in the COPD and Pneumonia Cerner PowerPlans:
- 3 Days: Treatment of COPD and Pneumonia
- Azithromycin
- 5 Days: Treatment of COPD and Community-Acquired Pneumonia
- Ceftriaxone
- Levofloxacin
- Doxycycline
- Ampicillin/sulbactam
- 7 Days: Treatment of Hospital-Acquired Pneumonia
- Cefepime
- Zosyn
- Meropenem
- Vancomycin (MRSA nasal swab helps rule out MRSA pneumonia)
